Compline Wine Shop and Pax Mahle of Pax Wines, one of California's foremost producers of high-quality Syrah, are co-hosting a blind tasting of Syrah from the world's greatest growing regions and some of the top producers in each region.
Join us at 6:30 pm for an intimate, informal meet-and-greet with Pax and a selection of his wines (Gamay, Chenin Blanc, and a GMS-style blend) followed by a seated blind tasting and discussion of eight Syrah wines. This is not about which wines are the best (although we will ask everyone to rank their top favorites)—it's about drilling down to what makes Syrah from each of these world class growing regions unique.
You'll taste the following wines blind:
Cornas - A. Clape 2021 (Northern Rhône, France)
Côte-Rôtie - Clusel-Roch "Les Schistes" 2020 (Northern Rhône, France)
Shiraz-Viognier - Clonakilla 2022 (Canberra District, Australia)
Shiraz - Brokenwood "Graveyard" 2021 (Hunter Valley, Australia)
Syrah - Boekenhoutskloof "Porseleinberg" 2020 (Swartland, South Africa)
Syrah - Pax Wines "Sonoma Hillsides" 2021 (Sonoma County, CA)
Syrah - Piedrasassi "Bien Nacido" 2021 (Santa Maria Valley, CA)
Syrah - Gramercy Cellars "Lagniappe/Red Willow" 2019 (Yakima Valley, WA)
